Choosing the right hypnotherapist can make all the difference in your healing journey. Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for creating deep and lasting change whether you’re seeking relief from anxiety, habits, fears, or past trauma. But like any healing relationship, the connection and qualifications matter. Here are three important things to look for when choosing a hypnotherapist:

#1 - Certification
A qualified hypnotherapist should have professional training and certification through a reputable hypnotherapy school or association. Look for credentials such as Certified Hypnotherapist (CHT) or membership in recognized organizations like American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE). Proper training ensures your practitioner understands both the art and ethics of hypnotherapy, and that they’re equipped to guide you safely through the process. If the hypnotherapist's credentials are not listed on their website, ask for them. I trained with the Academy for Hypnosis and am certified through ACHE.
#2 - Personal Experience
Most hypnotherapists were exposed to hypnotherapy as a client first. A hypnotherapist is much more effective when they have had the experience of being the client. Any highly effective hypnotherapist, therapist, or coach has their own hypnotherapist, therapist, or coach whom they continue to see.
#3 - References or Reviews
Before booking a session, take a look at client reviews or ask for references. Positive Google reviews, testimonials, or personal recommendations can tell you a lot about a hypnotherapist’s style, professionalism, and results. Pay attention to feedback about how clients felt during sessions and the changes they noticed afterward. Trust your instincts—if something feels right, it probably is.
Your Hypnotherapist
Choosing a hypnotherapist is a personal decision, and finding the right fit is key to your success. Look for someone with solid credentials, real experience, and a positive reputation. Most importantly, choose a practitioner who makes you feel safe, supported, and understood because that’s where true transformation begins.
