About the event
Invitation—finding the way in
There is a door into our inner world, and it is often found by way of the wound. "There is a crack in everything/its where the light gets in," wrote Lenard Cohen in his iconic song, Anthem.
In this class, we will start mapping our inner territories by simply looking for this door, using two questions:
What are you hungry for? What are you afraid of?
This source of navigation -- what we are drawn to and away from, will start us down a path of inner illumination. In this class, we will be exploring the inner world of the body/soul, like an explorer entering new territory, where we will build a more resilient and empathetic relationship to ourselves, our inner worlds, and our needs, desires, and hungers. We'll gather here, with torches and mirrors and masks for one another -- using paper and pen as a ritual theater. Prepare to explore the realms inside your psyche and be amazed at what you find there.
About the guest facilitator:
MariJean (MJ) Wegert is a writer, inner territory tracker, and practitioner of animist poetics who strives to bring healing tools to the accessible realm of the person, bridging inner and outer worlds through the practice of writing.
Curator of good questions, and apprenticed to listening, MariJean's practices emerge around embodied, immanent shadow work, exploring the (often taboo) realms of grief, shame, and desire. She has studied Internal Family Systems (parts work) systematized for the Western world by psychologist Dick Schwartz, and has studied under psychologist David Bedrick, reiki master Annie Wiesbrod, applied theater practitioner Laura Geiger, and renowned dancer in the troubled spaces, Bayo Akomolafe.
While not required, participation in the first class on Naming on May 14th is encouraged.
